Richard Parks’ 737 Challenge breaks £250,000 mark
19th December 2011
On Sunday Richard and the Wales on Sunday revealed that Richard has passed the quarter of a million mark in his quest to raise £1m in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Richard’s 737 Challenge broke the £250,000 mark last week reaching £263,356,97 with the amount rising each day.
Richard stated; “I am proud that the 737 Challenge has reached the quarter of a million mark in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far”. “We still have a long way to go but I am blown away and humbled by the incredibly generous donations and by all your support. On behalf of all the 737 Challenge team and Marie Curie Cancer Care, thank you”.
Richard’s 737 Challenge Trust aims to raise £1m in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and since Richard made history by climbing the highest peak on each of the world’s continents as well as standing on all 3 poles in under 7 months, people have pledged their support in many ways, from corporate donations and schools to individuals, all going the extra mile to help Richard’s cause.
“It’s been overwhelming how many people have generously donated. There’s been such a wide range of people doing amazing fundraising for the 737 Challenge, from schools such as Hereford Cathedral Junior School and Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun, to individuals like Howard Lewis and Wayne Morris who, like so many have raised over £2,000 throughout the last year taking on challenges and events of their own”.
“There’s also been funds raised from companies and businesses such as the Cardiff Ambassadors and many companies signing up to become one of our corporate donors by donating over £500”.
Richard’s amazing Welcome Home Gala Dinner also made a massive impact on fundraising raising over £52,000. “It was awesome that so many people came to celebrate, and I was blown away that the auction and raffle raised over £17,000”.
Richard now has his eyes set on the half a million mark. “We are doing everything we can to fundraise to reach the £1m target, but we have a long way to go yet. I am so grateful for the donations so far but I still need the public’s help to raise more funds in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care so we will be doing everything over the next 7 months to get there”. He added; “We have more events planned for 2012 including events in Leeds and New York and fundraising treks to Everest Base Camp. We will also be launching an official 737 Challenge schools initiative in 2012 as we have had so many schools fundraising for the 737 Challenge”.
