Richard’s hometown of Newport get behind history maker

Richard Parks’ hometown of Newport are going all out this week to fundraise for the welsh adventurer who returned to his parent’s home in Newport on Tuesday from his epic word first expedition.
Parks, who made history just over a week ago becoming the first ever person to climb the continental summits and stand on all 3 poles in the same calendar year. He completed his 737 Challenge in an astonishing 06 Months, 11 Days, 07 hours and 53 minutes.
The town of Newport will be celebrating the local hero’s success this week with a charity concert tonight, whilst his parents will be holding a dinner and dance tomorrow evening.
Charity Concert with the Greater Gwent Modern Ensemble and the Greater Gwent Schools Brass Band.

Mayoral Reception
Newport is also making preparations to honour local hero Richard in the form of a Mayoral Reception to recognise his remarkable achievement. Council leader Councillor Matthew Evans will be among those greeting the former rugby player; “We want to roll out the red carpet for Richard in the city where he grew up,” said Councillor Evans. “He deserves all the accolades he has received and this is just our gesture of showing how proud we are of this truly amazing feat.”
The reception is expected to take place next month, 737 Challenge will announce details soon.
