Two weeks after Richard Parks completed his history making challenge and a week today, Sports Media Services’ documentary following his journey is to be shown on BBC Cymru Wales, starting on Tuesday, July 26.
The documentary follows the twists and turns and dramas of Richard’s epic 7-month race to climb the highest summits on each of the world’s continents and stand on all 3 poles (The North Pole, South Pole and the summit of Everest) making history in the process.
Richard Parks - Conquering the World will be broadcast Tuesdays at 10:35pm for 3 weeks starting from 26th July on BBC One Wales.
Elis Owen, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales said; “We are thrilled that Richard Parks completed his remarkable 737 Challenge and that BBC Wales has exclusive rights to show his story on TV. People across Wales and beyond have been following his extraordinary world record challenge, and we will be the first to show them each leg of his journey”.
Programme 1 will introduce Richard and his 737 Challenge and follow his training and preparation before seeing him leave Cardiff to embark on the challenge of his life. He sets off to the South Pole followed by Mount Vinson. From Antarctica it’s off to South America for the arduous climb of Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas, before friends, family and Marie Curie Nurse Janet Suart team up with Richard for Kilimanjaro.
Programme 2 unveils some bad news for Richard and tough times
before setting off to gruelling Carstensz Pyramid, a savage leg which sees Richard climb through waist high rivers, knee deep mud and endless rain just to get to base camp before a technical and exhausting climb to the summit…the first signs of physical and mental fatigue set in. From rainforest in West Papua it’s on to -40 in the Arctic. The brutal back-to-back challenges of The North Pole and Mount Everest provide the ultimate test of courage, strength and nerve.
Programme 3 sees Richard’s frostbite story unfold before more shock and drama in Alaska. The worst possible start to one of the toughest legs of the challenge puts Richard’s life in serious danger and we see Richard’s 737 Challenge reach its conclusion in Russia before arriving back to Wales.
So tune in on Tuesday 26th July at 10:35pm for the first instalment of Richard Parks – Conquering the World.
